Having a baby is the one of the most precious moments for a woman. The happiness of being able to deliver a new life is like nothing else.Although it has an enormous amount of pain, most women agree that it is well worth it.
As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.It is also known as waterbirth.
Waterbirth has been called probably of all the methods of delivery the gentlest. It requires the use of a heatedwater bath or a pool. You will find some women will use during the labor the water part. They do this because the heated water is pain relieving. It soothes and relaxes the tissues.
Other women will also delivery the baby through it.They remain in the water through the whole delivery.Even till the placenta is delivered all the way through.
The whole process is usuallly performed and helped by someone called a midwife. If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego. You will want one that is very experienced.
Why is there some woman who prefer this method of delivery rather than the hospital procedure? As mentioned, labor and delivery is very painful.A majority of women will use the drugs to try and stop the pain. But for quite a few women they do not want to introduce drugs into their body in fear of harming the baby.Using waterbirth for delivery helps ease some of the pain.Because of the
water heated it is soothing to the tissues and helps reduce the pain.
Most women will have this procedure usually done naturally. They will not use any drugs to cope with the pain.Often what this does is cause the labor and delivery to happen a lot faster.Because when you use the drugs it can really slow down the labor.
It is really a safe alternate way of delivery. For a few women who might want to have a natural birth this could be the method to go with. I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife. All it is going to take is for the woman to go and research a bit and see it for themselves
how safe it is.

One of the effects that is sad due to our modern day and time in medicine is labor and delivery are pretty much medical procedures.
That might seem foreign to some people because most people already think of delivery as being a medical event. But that is the problem. It is not a medical event. It is an event that it is possible to keep it natural and private through alternate methods. Women
should be notified to the fact there are alternate ways.
I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.
That main alternative is having a homebirth midwife to assist you in your delivery. This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.
As cesareans and induction rates soar in hospitals, it has turned the joyous event of a delivery into an negative experience.
That is one of the main reasons for the push for more natural births through a licensed midwife or certified midwife.
Labor and delivery doesn’t have to include drugs, invasive procedures, constant probing of private areas, etc. It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.
It is an industry that is highly regulated. You are able to know of the skill and experience of any midwife you may consider hiring.
But getting past the stigma of passing up having the baby in the hospital takes education. But most women can see if they looked and through experience that statistics prove that a good amount of times having a baby in a hospital can negatively effect the process. From potent drugs that are used ot slow the pregnancy down, or used to increase the speed of the pregnancy. To having to be put through a c-section.Hopefully women are able to contrast and compare and see that there are successes in using a midwife.
So for women who seek to keep a birth and delivery a happy occasion, midwifery might be something to look into.
With the dawn of the internet age, being able to find information about the natural process is as simple as doing a search on the internet.
There they can find very helpful information so they can understand the process fully. They can view any safety concerns and how it is handled. And most importantly they are able to witness the keeping of the delivery of a child a monumental occasion that is kept private and is still a happy event.

Pregnancy, what a special time for women. Well, I guess aside from the sickness. But beyond that, the new baby coming is an exciting expectation.
Usually, for women in general, the question of how you are going to have the baby isn’t that big.Because most women just do it the usual way which is a medical procedure which includes hospitalization, doctors, and drugs.
But for some women, there is an alternative. That alternative is hiring a midwife and doing it the natural way. And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.
For people that don’t know, midwives are women who help natural deliveries without drugs. This means usually no doctors.
Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes.Although, maybe unusualy for most people, this alternative way to deliver a baby is safe and regulated.
The women, or midwives who practice this service are fully regulated. They can be licensed midwives or certified midwives that have a regulatory board that oversees them.
Sometimes they can be nurse midwives, but that is not a requirement.
This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Mostly this choice is made by women who don’t want any drugs during delivery to keep the new baby away from drugs. Also it is for women who want to avoid invasive procedures like episiotomys.
When you are making a big decision such as the method of delivering your baby, you want to make right decisions. With anything, you want to make sure you pick the right person.
As previously mentioned, it is a highly regulated industry. With that being the case, finding a good licensed or certified midwife is easy.
All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.
Something as simple as this step will help you determine if this is a midwife you can trust.Of course when you do see that there are no complaints or bad reports about your midwife, you still want to check references.
You want to find someone who has clients that only speak highly of them. With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.

Pregnancy and delivery; a source of joy and pain for the woman.Obviously there is joy because of the newborn baby, but any woman will tell you, it was a source of unspeakable pain.
Well because of the pain that woman go through, there are two different schools of thought on how labor and delivery should happen. I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.
There is the medical model for delivering babies which is tied in with using drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes c -sections to finish the delivery.
There is one other model, though not as common or accepted, but for those that practice it and believe in it, consider it a safer alternative for the woman.
That model is called the midwifery model. That model is the exact opposite of the medical model which is usually used.Where you have the medical model which depends a lot on medicine, midwifery prefers to rely on the natural. Midwifery believes that pregnancy and delivery is a natural process and thus should be allowed to happen naturally.
This model is carried out by a profession called midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would help with some techniques that help the woman go through labor as naturally as possible without drugs.
Contrary to popular belief, the non-use of medicine actually allows the labor to happen much faster because most pain killers actually slows the labor down.
The midwife is a profession that has a regulatory board that oversees, certifies, and licenses the individual.
Although usually not a nurse or doctor, a midwife can be a nurse as well.
Even though they are not formal doctors or nurses, they will have some medical equipment for emergencies like resuscitation devices and equipment for suturing.
So this describes what a midwife is and what midwifery is about in relation to pregnancy and delivery.
Their objective is to let the labor and delivery to occur as naturally as possible. This makes the likelihood of a c-section less likely. Doesn’t allow you to be subject to invasive hospital procedures such as episiotomys. There will be less use of managing it with medical techniques such as breaking the water or using any types of drugs for the pregnancy. And the part woman love the most, usually labor and delivery happen much faster naturally.
Hopefully this article sheds some light on the benefits of midwifery and having a midwife for your pregnancy. At the very least, hopefully it gives you more options to explore. Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.

Having your child in the home? Who would even think of such a thing? Didn’t that just happen when there weren’t many hospitals and doctor’s had to go to the home to deliver babies?
Not quite. There is a growing group of women who realize the benefits of a homebirth and having your baby at home.
The practice of homebirths is usually called midwifery. Although not doctors or nurses, people in this line of work called midwifery are professionally regulated. I myself have seen the steady rise of homebirths through my practice as a San Diego certified midwife.
The people, generally women, who perform this line of work are called homebirth midwives. Midwives is a more common term that people are familiar with and means a person who attends childbirth and provides support during labor and delivery.
Now why the midwife generally isn’t a doctor or nurse is because having your baby at home, or midwifery, is usually the belief that pregnancy and delivery are natural events. This is in stark contrast with the medical model which relies on medicine to assist and improve the pregnancy and delivery.
With that aside, lets look at why a lot of women are having babies at home rather than hospitals. What benefits are making women choose homebirths?
First, when you have a midwife present, this can cause the time of labor to be reduced. Most women don’t realize that the use of pain medications although seemingly helpful in regards to pain, actually slows the labor down. This really causes more pain and the labor actuallly lasts longer.
Second, midwifery techniques in reality reduce the need for forceps or other intrusive devices during delivery. The process of allowing the birth and delivery to happen naturally is what reduces the need for those devices.
Third, is it reduces the possibility of a cesarean delivery. Most c-sections happen when during labor, it was thought that a natural birth process was not possible. Either it was the baby’s safety that was in mind or the mother’s safety. Well in reality, complications were caused when the natural process was stopped and not allowed to continue.
These were 3 benefits of having a homebirth naturally. There are many more, but I am sure most women in pregnancy would agree these are 3 huge benefits.
So even though some might call it strange to have a child at home, recent studies indicate that allowing a natural birth to happen is much safer for the mom and the baby. With over 300 births attended as a homebirth midwife in San Diego, this has proven to be the case time and time again.
